DOMESTIC ASSAULT
Domestic abuse is the infliction of harm on a family member, the attempt to inflict harm, or an act done with the intent cause fear of harm in a family member. A family member is defined as anyone with whom you have blood relatives, spouses, ex-spouses, anyone in a romantic relationship, or someone you have lived with. A first time domestic abuse is a misdemeanor, a second in ten years is a gross misdemeanor and a third within 10 years is a felony with a maximum penalty of 5 years and/or $10,000.
DOMESTIC ASSAULT BY STRANGULATION
The intentional assault of a family member by impeding their normal breathing or circulation of the blood by applying pressure on the throat or neck or by blocking the nose or mouth of another person. Domestic Assault by Strangulation is a felony with a maximum sentence of 3 years and/or $5,000 or both.
